Sleeping in late increases your risk of developing this disease
It is well known that sleeping in late has an impact on both physical and mental health. However, a new study has revealed that it also increases the risk of depression.
A research team from the University of Surrey in Britain conducted a study involving 550 university students between the ages of 17 and 28. They were asked to complete questionnaires regarding their sleep patterns, alcohol consumption, mental focus, and levels of anxiety and depression.
Psychological Problems and Depression
The study, reported by the health research website HealthDay, confirmed previous findings that students who stay up late at night have increased symptoms of depression.
The researchers also found that sleeping late is associated with other habits, such as higher levels of alcohol consumption, poorer sleep quality, and poorer concentration compared to those who go to bed early in the evening.
They emphasized that these findings are of great importance in light of the increasing number of adults suffering from mental health problems. Risk Reduction Strategies
The researchers noted the need to develop intervention strategies to reduce the risk of depression in those who sleep late at night, such as practicing specific mental exercises.
They said further studies are needed to determine whether these findings apply to other age groups.
