She thought it was symptoms of excessive phone use... only to be surprised by a serious illness

After years of suffering and pain, a British woman discovered that the "hidden" symptoms she ignored, thinking they were caused by excessive phone use, were actually indicative of a serious brain disorder.

She thought it was symptoms of excessive phone use... only to be surprised by a serious illness

According to the New York Post, Charlie Rollston (44 years old) suffered from migraines and motion sickness whenever she used her phone for a long time, but she continued to ignore the symptoms until the pain worsened and became unbearable.

A rare medical condition

Upon entering the hospital, Charlie underwent an MRI, which revealed that she suffers from epilepsy and a rare congenital skull deformity that affects the brain and spinal cord, scientifically called "Chiar's malformation", which may be genetic and affects one in every thousand cases.

This disease causes part of the brain to push down into the skull, obstructing the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. While this disease is considered fatal, Charlie Rollston stated that she must monitor her symptoms constantly throughout her life.

Years of untreated pain

Charlie Rollston, who was diagnosed with Chiar malformation at the age of 41, discovered she had been suffering from the symptoms her whole life without knowing the cause.

Charlie, who lives in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, said: “The symptoms got worse as I got older.”

She started suffering from migraines and motion sickness in her teens, and the pain was severe when she coughed, but it only lasted 30 seconds. Despite the severity, she endured the pain believing she would recover, and did not see a doctor until 30 years later.

Remarkable improvement

She recalled the incident in which she discovered the condition in 2021, noting that she fainted after returning from sports, and her husband took her to hospital, where it was discovered that she had a more serious health problem.

She confirmed that her health condition had improved significantly 21 months after discovering the condition.

She explained that she was able to control the symptoms by taking painkillers and limiting her mobile phone use, which helped her return to normal life.
