What do you know about nail cancer?
The German Cancer Research Center said that nail cancer is a rare form of black skin cancer, which usually affects fingernails more than toenails, and it is difficult to detect in its early stages, as it is often confused with other nail problems.
The center explained that the causes of nail cancer lie in genetic factors and excessive exposure to harmful ultraviolet rays, in addition to some mutations, which make nail cells more susceptible to cancer, noting that it is more common in the elderly and people with light skin.
Symptoms of nail cancer
Symptoms of nail cancer include the presence of a dark line, usually brown or black, that extends vertically under the nail, and this line may widen or appear irregular over time. In rare cases, it can be white.
Other symptoms also include thickening or deformation of the nail or even separation of the nail from the nail bed. Sometimes there are small wounds or bleeding around the edge of the nail.
Pain occurs when skin cancer is already very advanced, as the tumor grows, painful pressure develops under the nail.
Methods and methods of treatment
You should consult a doctor immediately upon noticing these symptoms to undergo timely treatment, which includes chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy.
In advanced cases, amputation of the affected fingers or toes may be necessary to prevent the spread of nail cancer.
