Trump: I expect an Iranian attack on Israel tonight
Former US President Donald Trump said that Israel will be attacked tonight, explaining that he heard, and not from a secret source, that it will be attacked by Iran, and if he were in power, no one would have dared to do this, warning of the dangerous leadership of the country, which is run by Democrats.
For his part, US President Joe Biden began crisis talks with his national security team on Monday, as fears of an Iranian attack on Israel escalate in response to the killing of the leader of the Hamas movement in an operation carried out in Iran.
Contacts to reduce escalation
Biden also made a call to Jordanian King Abdullah II as part of diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the situation in the Middle East from deteriorating into a full-scale war.
The White House said about the call that Biden and King Abdullah II "discussed their efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, including reaching an immediate ceasefire and a deal to release the hostages."
In Amman, a statement from the Jordanian Royal Court said that King Abdullah II stressed during a call with Biden the need to "de-escalate" and establish "comprehensive calm" in the region to prevent it from sliding into a "regional war."
US deploys warplanes
The United States has deployed additional fighter jets and warplanes to the region to support Israel after reports indicated that Iran may respond as of Monday to the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh.
Biden is meeting with his national security team in the White House Situation Room "to discuss developments in the Middle East" after returning from a weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.
Among those present was Vice President Kamala Harris, who is expected to announce her running mate in the next two days.
Iran has blamed Israel for the assassination of Haniyeh, which has not directly commented on the attack, and Tehran has vowed to respond. Haniyeh's killing came hours after an Israeli airstrike on a southern suburb of Beirut that killed senior Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr.
