A Kuwaiti youth was sentenced to two years in prison for stealing chewing gum
The Kuwaiti judiciary issued a two-year prison sentence against a citizen after he was convicted of stealing packs of chewing gum.
The Misdemeanor Court in Kuwait ruled yesterday, Thursday, to imprison a citizen for two years after he was convicted of stealing packs of chewing gum worth 75 dinars (about $245).
The incident also occurred in one of the famous supermarkets in the Salwa area in Hawalli Governorate.
The post achieved about a quarter of a million views on "X", amid a large number of activists interacting with the news, and one of them wrote, "It is very possible that the person has a criminal record and has been imprisoned before, which is why the judge did not show mercy in the ruling because he did not deter him in previous times."
Others called for confronting theft in all its forms, even if it was "chewing gum."
