A report published by the American network "CNBC" quoted the Chinese Customs Authority as saying that it arrested a man who was trying to smuggle 104 live snakes in his underwear at the Chinese border this week.

Government officials said that the animal smuggler tried to get around by using the green lane designated for those who have nothing to declare, at a port between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

When officers searched his pants, they discovered six sealed bags containing a variety of exotic snakes, including milk snakes, western hog snakes, corn snakes, Texas rat snakes, and bull snakes.

The video showed two border guards carrying large, transparent bags filled with live, multi-colored reptiles, which are often sought after as exotic pets.

While none of the snakes were venomous, at least four of them are considered exotic to China, which could be a violation of China's biosafety law.

The customs authority said it would hold the man legally accountable under the law, without specifying the exact penalty.
