Two days after the Hodeidah strike.. ongoing efforts to contain the fire in Yemen

Firefighting teams continued their efforts on Monday to contain the massive fire that is still burning in the port of Hodeidah in western Yemen, two days after a deadly Israeli raid hit oil tanks and a power plant in the Houthi-controlled sea pier.

A correspondent in Hodeidah said that thick flames and black smoke were seen rising into the sky for the third day in a row after Saturday's raid, according to France Presse.

Firefighting teams appear to have made little progress, as the fire spreads to some parts of the port, amid fears that it could reach food storage facilities.

High-resolution satellite images taken by Maxar Technologies showed flames engulfing the severely damaged fuel storage area in the port.

The fuel depot is run by the Yemeni Oil Company, which said late Sunday that the six people killed in the Israeli raid were its employees.

The Houthis say more than 80 others were injured in the attack, some with serious burns.

As black smoke rose in the sky over the area, funerals were held for the victims of the raids on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport in the Houthi caretaker government, Abdul-Wahhab al-Durra, said that work is underway at the port of Hodeidah to receive and unload ships carrying food supplies and oil derivatives within 24 hours.

This came during his inspection of the port of Hodeidah and the damage caused by the Israeli bombing, stressing the importance of concerted efforts to confront the threats and repercussions of the course of action of the Red Sea ports.

In a major development in the events, Israeli fighter jets raided the strategic port of Hodeidah on Saturday, the day after the Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for an attack with an explosive drone that killed one person in Tel Aviv. This was the first time the Hebrew state has claimed responsibility for an attack on Yemen.

The Houthis threatened Israel with a "massive response to the aggression," threatening to target Tel Aviv again.
