Video: The strangest penalty kick in football history
During a match between Flamengo and Criciuma in the Brazilian league, as part of the 18th week of the league and at the former's stadium yesterday, Saturday, the referee awarded a strange and controversial penalty kick, in the last moments of the match, which was heading towards a positive draw with a goal for each team.
In the 90th minute, during an organized counterattack, the ball reached the player Cipollinho, the Flamengo striker, inside the penalty area, and while he was rushing towards the ball trying to shoot, there was a second ball on the field, so one of the Criciuma defenders kicked the second ball towards the ball in Cipollinho's possession, spoiling the striker's shot after the two balls went in two different directions, as the video clips showed.
In the end, the referee announced a penalty kick in favor of Flamengo, amidst the objections of the visiting team's players, but to no avail.
The player Gabriel Barbosa managed to score the second goal for the team from the strange penalty kick, and the match ended with Flamengo winning by two goals to one.
Thus, Flamengo raised its points to 34 points, occupying second place, one point behind Botafágo and one point ahead of Palmeiras, while Criciuma's points froze at 14 points, remaining in 17th place.
