87 killed in stampede in northern India
The death toll from a stampede in northern India has risen to 87, with dozens injured so far, amid expectations that the number of victims will rise due to the severity of the incident and the number of attendees at the religious gathering in the north of the country.

A medical official reported earlier on Tuesday that at least 27 people were killed in a stampede during a Hindu religious gathering in northern India.

"We have received 27 bodies so far... we are still receiving more," Ram Mohan Tiwari, the chief medical officer in Uttar Pradesh state, told AFP.
This comes as Indian authorities have ordered an urgent investigation into the incident and its causes.
