Fans invaded the pitch.. Morocco beats Argentina in a match that was stopped two hours
The Argentina-Morocco match in the Paris Summer Olympics football competition resumed after two hours of controversial interruption following the invasion of the pitch by some Moroccan fans in Saint-Etienne on Wednesday.
Everyone thought the match ended in a 2-2 draw, after Argentina scored a late goal in the 16th minute of stoppage time, but the fans’ entry prompted the referee to stop it.
After about two hours, the referee canceled Argentina’s second goal due to offside after resorting to the video assistant referee and decided to complete the remaining minutes of the match.
The Moroccan Olympic team gave a heroic performance, and led 2-0, before Argentina equalized in the 15th minute of stoppage time, in an “unbelievable” scenario that made the large Moroccan fans who attended in Saint-Etienne cry.
The Moroccan Lions gave a wonderful performance, and dominated the Tango team throughout the match, and took the lead with two goals through the Emirati Al Ain striker, Soufiane Rahimi.
But Argentina came back with a goal from Giuliani Simone, before Cristian Medina scored the equalizer in the 15th minute of stoppage time.
The referee stirred controversy by adding 15 full minutes after the end of 90 minutes, which angered the Moroccan fans in the stands, which prompted the referee to stop the match.
In addition to Morocco and Argentina, Group B in the Olympics includes the Iraqi national team and the Ukrainian national team.
