Hackers Exploited Global Technical Outage!
Despite the many official warnings issued by the affected countries to their citizens, the technical glitch that hit the world yesterday caused huge losses and left a gap that was exploited by fraudsters.
The global IT outage, caused by a faulty update to the CrowdStrike program, created an opportunity that cybercriminals did not miss, according to the Fox News website.
Global Technical Glitch
The American report stated that hackers launched phishing campaigns and distributed links loaded with malware, taking advantage of the unprecedented disruption that affected Windows computers around the world.
He also continued that they exploited individuals and organizations that were desperately searching for information and solutions, and tricked them into clicking on deceptive links under the guise of providing updates or fixes for problems related to CrowdStrike.
These hackers' actions came despite many countries issuing official warnings to their individuals against clicking on suspicious links or even conducting any banking transactions until the glitch was fixed.
Warning of criminal activities
In addition, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency of the US Department of Homeland Security issued a warning statement regarding the increasing criminal activities.
It indicated that threat actors are exploiting this incident for phishing and other malicious activities.
This came after many services around the world were exposed, earlier on Friday, to a sudden internet outage related to a technical glitch, which caused disruption to operations at airports, airlines, media outlets and banks, and later Microsoft announced a fix for the technical glitch.
However, the global technology outage led to the suspension of flights, the cessation of banks, and the cessation of media broadcasting on Friday in a massive disruption that affected companies and services around the world and highlighted the reliance on the programs of a few service providers.
