Earlier today, Sunak announced, during a press conference from the government headquarters in Downing Street, his resignation from the premiership and from the leadership of the Conservative Party.

He also added that he bears responsibility for the failure in the elections, noting that "the Conservative Party will try to rebuild itself after this result."

He added, "I apologize for letting down the Conservatives."

While he stressed that he respects "Labor Leader Keir Starmer, who is an honest man."

Before that, Sunak admitted the Conservatives' defeat in the legislative elections, saying that he bears "responsibility" for that.

He also acknowledged that "the Labor Party won these legislative elections."

He also added after being re-elected in his constituency in Richmond, northern England, that "the British people have made a clear judgment and I take responsibility" for this defeat.

He confirmed that he had called the leader of the Labor Party, Keir Starmer, to congratulate him.

Keir Starmer in the lead

This came after the British Labor Party achieved a landslide victory in the legislative elections on Thursday, ending 14 consecutive years of Conservative rule and opening the doors of Downing Street to its leader, Keir Starmer.

The results of the vote published by British television channels showed that the Labor Party (center-left) has won 411 seats so far out of 650 seats in the House of Commons, far ahead of the Conservatives, whose share will be limited to 120 seats in their worst electoral result since the beginning of the twentieth century.
