Trump campaign raises more money .. Biden in trouble
The Republican Party had another strong month for fundraising in June, with the Republican National Committee reporting its best month of fundraising in years, as Donald Trump surpassed the massive cash advantage enjoyed by President Biden’s campaign. The committee raised more than $66 million in June, according to filings filed Saturday night with the Federal Election Commission.
That’s the highest amount raised by the committee since late 2020, when Donald Trump’s claims of voter fraud in that year’s election prompted hundreds of millions of dollars in donations in a matter of weeks.
A massive campaign fund
The Republican National Committee also reported that it had a campaign fund of $102 million at the end of June, nearly double the amount of cash on hand it reported at the end of May.
The Democratic National Committee reported late Saturday that it had raised $39 million and reported $78 million in cash on hand at the end of June. The GOP’s fundraising momentum is a bad omen for Democrats, according to the Washington Post .
Although Biden’s campaign claimed to have raised $38 million in the four days since the debate, Biden’s faltering performance has sent ripples of panic through the Democratic Party, prompting some high-dollar donors to say they have temporarily halted their donations to outside groups.
The potential drop in funding this month for Biden’s campaign and its allies won’t show up in Federal Election Commission reports until August.
Biden campaign donations drop
The Trump campaign’s reports filed Saturday night showed it had about $285 million in the bank, while Biden’s campaign had about $240 million in cash on hand through its allied committees, including the Democratic National Committee.
Many Democrats are concerned that big-dollar donations to Biden’s efforts are dropping sharply as Biden weighs calls to abandon his reelection bid.
Dozens of Democrats, including two senators, called on Biden to drop out of the presidential race on Friday, the largest wave of such calls in a single day since the debate. Thirty-seven Democratic members of Congress have said he should step down.
