Details of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran hours after leaving Qatar
Iranian media revealed some details of the operation that led to the assassination of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in the capital, Tehran.
Iranian media reported on Wednesday that "the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh took place at around 2:00 am Iranian time, and he was staying at a private headquarters for veterans in Tehran."
Iranian news agencies reported that Haniyeh's headquarters was targeted by a missile fired from the air.
They added: "Further investigations are being conducted to determine the circumstances of this terrorist operation, such as the location from which the missile was launched."
This comes amid circulating news that the missile that killed the head of the political bureau of Hamas in Tehran was launched from a foreign country.
Media reported, quoting an unnamed Iranian source, that the missile that killed the head of the political bureau of Hamas in Tehran was launched from another country and not from Iran.
Earlier, Iranian media announced that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard confirmed the news of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said: "We are studying the dimensions of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, and we will announce the results of the investigation later."
Hamas said in a statement that it "mourns Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the movement, who was killed in a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran, after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president."
Haniyeh's last appearance in Tehran was during the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, inside the Iranian parliament.
