Explosion in Tel Aviv 7 people injured

A blast of unknown origin at around 03:15 (00:15 GMT) left 7 people slightly injured in central Tel Aviv, according to Israeli police.

The police said in a statement: "Police forces arrived at the scene and are searching the area for suspicious objects (...) Seven people were treated for minor injuries."

The Israeli army said the explosion was "caused by the fall of an aerial target" according to the results of a "preliminary investigation," without giving further details.

It said in a statement that "the sirens (alarm) did not sound," adding that "the incident is being investigated thoroughly."

It also added that "the air force has increased its air patrols in order to protect Israeli airspace."

This comes amid conflicting information about the cause of the explosion, which Israeli media reported occurred near diplomatic headquarters.

Channel 13 reported that the security services say that all scenarios are possible for the Tel Aviv explosion and that they are unable to determine the cause yet.

The channel later indicated that a drone coming from the sea at a low altitude crashed into a building in central Tel Aviv.

Israeli media outlets also indicated that the explosion was caused by a drone falling.

While some suggested that the explosion may have been caused by a suicide drone.

In addition, others stated that the drone that exploded in Tel Aviv resembles Hezbollah drones and that it arrived at a low altitude from the sea, so it was not detected.
