In the past few hours, social media in Turkey has been buzzing with a video showing a bright beam of light crossing the sky of Istanbul, which has aroused great curiosity among Turks.
Citizens have also seen the mysterious beam in a number of other cities.
Many people in Bursa, Sakarya, Kocaeli and Corum wondered about the bright object that suddenly appeared and disappeared. Some thought it was a missile, while others assumed it was a satellite.
While local media suggested that the beam, which was seen at around 20:30 local time and monitored from several areas, was emitted by a meteor.

In addition, the Turkish Space Agency (TUA) social media account shared information about meteors in general without confirming whether what was seen was a meteor or another object.
It explained that the colors that form when meteors enter the atmosphere vary depending on factors such as the chemical composition of the meteor, its speed and the gases present in the Earth's atmosphere.
