Biden meets with his family to decide on the future of his election campaign
The American network "NBC" said that President Joe Biden will meet with his family today, to decide whether to continue his election campaign, or withdraw from the presidential race in favor of another Democratic candidate.
Biden's performance in the election debate against his Republican rival Donald Trump raised concerns among the Democratic Party and donors about his ability to continue the confrontation.
If Biden decides to withdraw, the Democrats will meet next August in Chicago in what is known as the "open" conference, where individual delegates will need to choose another candidate.
This scenario will be unprecedented since 1968, when the party had to find a replacement for President Lyndon Johnson after the latter withdrew his candidacy in the midst of the Vietnam War.
Meanwhile, leaders in the Democratic Party defended US President Joe Biden after his debate with former US President Trump.
The leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, acknowledged that Biden suffered a setback in his debate with Trump, but he said that any setback is only a prelude to a comeback.
Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock, who is considered a potential replacement for Biden, said he does not support replacing Biden, stressing that the main task is to make sure he wins the race in November.
Axios reported that since the beginning of his presidency, Joe Biden’s top aides have shielded him from meetings with people inside and outside the White House, which shocked many White House aides when they saw his poor debate performance.
The report added that some former and current White House aides have begun to question whether Biden can really serve a second term.
After the debate, Chandler West, the former White House director of photography, wrote on Instagram that “it’s time for Joe to go.”
