Israel: Reports of Explosions in Eilat

The Israeli army said on Saturday evening that it was investigating reports of explosions in the southern Israeli city of Eilat, according to Reuters.

This came hours after the Israeli army announced that its fighter jets had bombed Houthi military targets in Yemen on Saturday.

It said in a statement that Israeli fighter jets bombed Houthi military targets in the Hodeidah port area in Yemen "in response to hundreds of attacks on Israel in recent months."

In addition, army spokesman Daniel Hagari added in a televised statement that the port that was attacked by Israeli aircraft is used as "a major supply route for delivering Iranian weapons from Iran to Yemen, starting with the drone used in the attack on Friday morning" in Tel Aviv.

He also confirmed that Saturday's strikes "were carried out by the Israeli army alone," adding that Israel "informed its friends" of the matter.

For his part, Defense Minister Yoav Galant said in a statement that Israel bombed the Houthis in Yemen to send a specific message in response to the targeting of Tel Aviv.

He added that "the fires currently raging in Hodeidah can be seen throughout the Middle East and the significance is clear."

In contrast, a member of the Houthi political bureau, Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, announced via the "X" platform that Israel "will pay the price" for its strikes in Yemen.

The Hodeidah raids came a day after the Houthis claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Friday morning, which killed one person and injured eight others in Tel Aviv.
