Military helicopter crashes in Tunisia

In an unfortunate incident, a Tunisian soldier died of his injuries after a military helicopter crashed in the southern governorate of Gafsa on Friday.

The official spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Major Mohamed Al-Zakri, explained that "the helicopter was involved in an accident during a landing maneuver while it was on a pre-determined mission, which resulted in the injury of its crew consisting of two pilots."

He also added that one of the pilots died, while the second is still receiving treatment at the local hospital in Gafsa. However, he confirmed that "his condition is stable."

It is worth noting that Tunisia has previously witnessed similar crashes of military helicopters during training or reconnaissance missions.

In the past, specifically in June, 4 soldiers were killed after their helicopter crashed near the coast of the governorate of Bizerte, in the north of the country.

Also, in January 2022, a helicopter crashed in the same area while carrying out a normal flight mission, which led to the death of the co-pilot.

In 2021, 3 soldiers were also killed in a military helicopter crash during a night exercise in the southern governorate of Gabes.
