Al-Houthi claims targeting American aircraft carrier.. Washington comments

As tensions continue in the Red Sea, the Houthi group claimed to have carried out two military operations targeting the American aircraft carrier Eisenhower in the Red Sea and the ship Transworld Navigator in the Arabian Sea, which was denied by a US official to Reuters and described as "false."

The group added that the operation targeting the ship Transworld Navigator "resulted in a direct hit on the ship" and that the operation targeting the aircraft carrier Eisenhower "successfully achieved its goals."

These developments come amid increasing tensions in the Red Sea following Houthi attacks in Yemen on ships related to Israel due to the war on the Gaza Strip.

Therefore, months after the European Union launched the "Aspidis" mission to protect ships in the Red Sea, the head of that mission, Admiral Vasileios Griparis, believed that the Europeans should more than double the size of those naval forces.

Gribaris said: "We do not have enough assets, especially since the area to be covered is wide," according to what was reported by Bloomberg on Friday.

Since last November, the Houthi group has launched more than 150 attacks on commercial ships, claiming that they were heading to Israel.

The Houthis have also vowed to expand their attacks to the Mediterranean Sea, under the pretext of supporting the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a devastating Israeli war since October 7.

These attacks have already prompted commercial companies to switch to a longer and more expensive route around Africa.

They also led to the sinking of a cargo ship named "Rubimar", which was loaded with hazardous materials, and recently severely damaged two other ships. One of the attacks also resulted in the death of three sailors as a result of a missile attack on the ship True Confidence, which was flying the flag of Barbados and operated by Greece.

In addition, these attacks have fueled fears that the war between Israel and Hamas will destabilize the Middle East.

Meanwhile, US aircraft have also carried out dozens of raids on Houthi sites in Yemen, and were able to intercept many missiles and drones launched towards cargo ships.
