Trump campaign administration initiative to end war in Ukraine
People close to former US President Donald Trump's campaign revealed that two of his senior advisers presented him with a plan to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, if he wins the US presidency.
Trump administration plan
According to the plan, Washington will condition the provision of more weapons to Ukraine on Kiev agreeing to join peace talks with Moscow.
Washington - under Trump - will also warn Moscow that its refusal to negotiate with Ukraine will lead to increased US support for Ukraine, according to retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg in an interview. However, Trump spokesman Stephen Cheung said that only statements made by Trump or authorized by his aides are considered official statements.
Reality on the ground
The Kremlin was quick to say that any peace plan by the White House under Trump must reflect what he called "reality on the ground," according to Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Peskov pointed out that President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly confirmed that Moscow is open to negotiations.
