Serious effects of rabies
Rabies is a dangerous virus that is transmitted from dogs to humans through biting. It may reach the brain and lead to death if not treated immediately.
Tunisia has been suffering from the spread of stray dogs for several years, and the Tunisian Ministry of Health is taking precautionary measures against rabies, which is caused by dog bites. Last year, 55,000 citizens were vaccinated against the disease, which may be transmitted by other animals such as bats, cats and foxes.
In recent years, there have been increasing calls to kill stray dogs due to the dangerous disease they transmit to humans, and the Ministry responded to the demands by killing a large number of dogs in locations far from residential areas.
