The CatsMe app was developed by Japanese veterinarians after training the app using 6,000 photos of cats, and the developers say the app's results are more than 95% accurate.

The app aims to tell when cats are in pain. This eases the burden of predicting when it's time to go to the vet.

The Japan Pet Food Association estimates that there were nearly 16 million pet cats and dogs in the country last year, more than the number of children under the age of 15.
