Deportation of a Sudanese and arrest of others in Egypt
The wave of resentment continues in some Egyptian circles against Sudanese refugees, due to the Sudanese shop owners placing signs of a map of Sudan that includes Hala'ib and Shalateen, which are subject to Egyptian sovereignty, on the facades of their shops, which sparked criticism and demands for the government to deport them.
A few hours after the arrest of the Sudanese barber, named Banan Abdel Majid, who placed a map of Hala'ib and Shalateen on his shop, social media users rushed to reveal other shops in Cairo and Alexandria that placed the same map, including perfume shops, schools, barber shops and clothing stores in several places as well.
While the Egyptian authorities deported the owner of the barbershop who was arrested for violating the country's rules, conditions and laws, reports continued against Sudanese shops that raised the same sign and map, demanding the arrest and deportation of their owners, according to local media.
In the same context, Egyptian activist Rahima Al-Sharif launched a campaign on social media against the Sudanese after she claimed that she had been threatened with assassination by some Sudanese.
Other activists also circulated videos of a Sudanese man from a tourist village in Hurghada insulting Egyptians who oppose receiving refugees.
