Study reveals why some people do not get infected with Corona
Researchers have recently discovered the main reason why some people do not get infected with the Corona virus.
According to a study conducted during the height of the epidemic in 2021, and the results of which were recently published, scientists discovered differences in the unique immune response associated with resistance to viral infection of the disease.
This result may explain why some people do not get infected with the virus, which sheds light on the development of potential treatments and vaccines that mimic these natural protective responses.
A study on Corona
The study, the results of which were recently published in the scientific journal "Nature", was conducted by researchers from the Wellcome Sanger Institute, University College London, Imperial College London, and the Netherlands Cancer Institute.
The researchers in the study used single-cell sequencing to study the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection in healthy adult volunteers, according to the British Guardian newspaper.
As part of the human challenge study of the Corona virus, 36 healthy adult volunteers in the United Kingdom with no previous history of Corona infection, and who were not vaccinated, were given a low dose of the virus through the nose.
Study results
The researchers monitored 16 volunteers, and monitored in detail the activity of immune cells in the blood and nasal lining, using single-cell sequencing to create datasets of more than 600,000 individual cells, providing the most detailed timeline of immune activity before, during and after infection.
The researchers concluded that there were three patterns of participants, as 6 people were infected with the virus continuously and became sick, while 3 people were infected with the virus transiently without developing a full infection, and 7 people were not exposed to the infection at all.
The researchers indicated that high levels of activity of the gene "HLA-DQA2" before exposure help people prevent viral infection.
