Famine Threatens Gaza Children
The World Health Organization said that more than 4 out of 5 children have spent a full day without eating at least once in 3 days.
WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris said in a statement that "children are starving."
According to relief organizations, the high rates of malnutrition among Gaza children under the age of five is due to the failure of humanitarian aid entering Gaza to reach those who need it.
Crisis of Closing Crossings
After the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) examined more than 93,400 children under the age of five in Gaza to confirm malnutrition, the results concluded that 7,280 of them suffer from severe malnutrition.
Malnutrition is particularly prevalent in the northern Gaza Strip, where those who remained there received little aid in the first months of the war.
In recent weeks, a large portion of food aid has been diverted through the crossings, after the entry of aid was prevented
The Rafah crossing was the main outlet for aid to enter the Gaza Strip from Egypt before Israel launched a ground operation on May 7 and took control of the border crossing.
Since then, Israel has not allowed any aid to enter the Gaza Strip, and none of the wounded or sick have been able to leave for treatment.
