Russia's reserves of the precious metal rose at the end of September this year to a record level of 2,360 tons, according to a study by the "Novosti" agency based on data from global central banks.
Increase gold reserves
Last September, Russia increased its gold reserves by 2%, equivalent to 44 tons, bringing the reserves to 2,360 tons, the highest level in the country’s history.
Despite the increase in the volume of gold reserves, its value declined by 3% to $140.5 billion, in light of the decline in the prices of the yellow metal at the end of September 2023.
The United States is in the lead
The agency noted that Russia ranks fifth in the world in terms of gold reserves. According to the classification of the World Gold Council, the United States leads the world in reserves of the precious metal (3352.6 tons), followed by Germany (3352.6 tons), then Italy (Italy - 2451.8 tons) and then France (2436.9 tons), while Russia holds fifth place.
